START HERE!
To register for the events you have to make four decisions. We'll try to help!
CHOOSE YOUR RACES & TRAININGS
Look over the list of races on the Program tab, then look at the details about the races and model events on the Races drop down menu.
("Model events", by the way, are informal training events designed to give you familiarity with the terrain and the mapping styles and so prepare you to do your best in the races).
PICK YOUR CLASS
You can choose to race in a championship class or you can choose an Open class and pick the course length, difficulty and start time that suits you best. For full details visit the Classes page
DECIDE WHICH SOCIAL EVENTS TO SIGN UP FOR
There are a few social events that you will need to pre-register for - especially the banquets and perhaps a few other events will be added. Check details under the Other Events drop down menu.
SELECT MERCHANDISE
There is some additional stuff that you can buy, including driving maps, guide books, and stuff like that.
REGISTER
Once you've gathered all of your choices together, head over to the online registration page and sign up.

Making changes to your registration
It’s not a trivial matter to change your entries once they’ve been accepted. If you do need to make a change, email the registrar and we’ll sort out the best way to handle your request. Sorry, only minor changes after entries close and they will be accepted at the discretion of the organizers / on the availability of maps, start slots etc., and may incur an additional fee.
Refunds
Refunds will be made less a $30 charge for administration until June 29th. Refunds will be made less a $75 charge for administration until July 13th. No refunds are available after July 13th. Refunds will be made by cheque (unfortunately we’ve no way of refunding your credit card). This should be no problem for North American entries but for overseas entries there may be complications and an additional fee may be charged to cover costs of international money orders or other payments methods.
No refunds will be provided if the event cannot be held or is interrupted due to extreme weather or other emergency situations beyond the control of event organizers. We thank you for your understanding.

FEES & DISCOUNTS
On the day payments
We are able to accept on the day payments only with cash, or cheques made out to Alberta Orienteering Association.
HPP discount
Available for a limited time only! In order to show support to our national team athletes, the event organizers are offering members of Orienteering Canada's High Performance Program entry to all races and model maps at a reduced price. This offer is only valid until June 30th. During Early-bird pricing (until March 30th) the HPP discount will be further reduced by 50%.
SPORTident card rental
All races use electronic timing and everyone requires a SPORTident card (aka "SI stick", "SI card") to participate. If you don’t own an SI card, you can buy one from the o-store.ca. Alternatively rent one with your registration for $3 for 1 event, $6 for 2 events, $8 for 3 events or $10 for 4 or more events.
Environmental Impact Study levy
Alberta Parks are requiring us to perform a study of the impact of the event on wildlife in the Bow Valley. This will be expensive and we are including a $10 mandatory fee on the COC Middle distance race to help offset the costs. The results of the study will be shared with other orienteering clubs. This study, along with the study performed in 2002 in the Bow Valley on the impact of orienteering on plants, will help all clubs across Canada (and the world) demonstrate that orienteering is a low impact sport on the environment. For more information visit our Environmental Impact page.
Orienteering Canada Levy
The registration fees for the Canadian Orienteering Championships and the associated events (eg Western Canadian orienteering Championships) include a built-in 25% levy to Orienteering Canada. This levy assists Orienteering Canada to fulfill its mandate to further develop orienteering in Canada. Your support to Orienteering Canada by choosing to register for the COCs/WCOCs is sincerely appreciated.
