Bonus Map #4 - The Canmore "Mines & Meadows" scenic course Areas of this map are currently closed due to a temporary bear closure due to the abundant berry crop in the lower slopes. Check the Alberta Parks trail advisory page for more details - the area currently closed is known as "The Lowline Trail" or "Loki's". Hello all,
As we had an early and warm spring this year, we have an unusually early and extra large berry crop in the Bow valley. The bears are loving it and have descended on the area in extra large numbers. This has resulted in more human-bear encounters than normal around Canmore. We are taking extra steps to make the races as safe as possible, for example we have hired a wildlife management company to sweep the race areas before the race to point us to hot spots of bear activity on the courses (if any). Because of the bumper berry crops officials have warned us that our competition areas may be closed in order to allow the bears undisturbed access to their food. We are preparing backup courses in case this should happen. Please be aware that we may need to make last minute changes to venues. We will of course keep you informed of these changes as quickly as possible and we'll do our absolute best to give you an outstanding and safe race experience. Please check the event website or our Facebook page for the latest information. See you this weekend, Eduard Spelier Meet Director COC 2016 Bulletin 2 is posted.
